Burbank, CA, April 9, 2007 - Turner Studios, the full service broadcast production division of Turner Entertainment Group, is now using Archion's new SYNERGY HD™ storage product. The announcement was made by Reuben Lima, COO, Archion.
The expanding needs of HD production in support of Turner Sports coverage of the National Basketball Association (NBA) drove Turner Studios to seek out storage options for expanding one of its three Avid UNITY™ systems. SYNERGY HD™ fit the requirements of both larger space, and data security.
Ken Brady, Director of Technical Operations, says "Our coverage of the NBA is a critical live-support operation that runs seven days a week. The existing UNITY™ ZX chassis were aging and offered no hardware RAID support. We have had data losses in the past and knew that we had to do better."
Turner Studios added the SYNERGY HD™ to an existing Avid UNITY™ MediaNet™ and migrated all of the primary NBA footage over to the new Archion storage. The unit has been in service since January. Brady adds, "The install went even easier than we had been expecting. We had one hour of downtime to reconfigure the fiber switches, power up the Archion unit, and then we were in business. SYNERGY HD has been up and in production every day since, feeding the Sports Adrenaline suites."
