Purpose-Built Shared Storage for Video Editing

EditStorVeloLeftBottomNEWB

EditStor Velo is an intelligent, high-performance storage server designed for video editing and related content creation workflows. While there’s an abundance of network storage servers available, only a small number were brought to the market as collaborative editing storage solutions. Archion’s EditStor Velo has unique properties and characteristics for professional content creation; it’s more than just a server for video editing.

The Importance of Bandwidth Performance for Post-Production
The intelligent and uniquely architected EditStor Velo delivers unmatched performance in its category. When a post-production executive considers an investment in a centralized, shared video editing storage system, a number of factors must be considered: How many editors will be collaborating? Are there colorists, visual effects artists and graphics designers. How is the media captured and ingested? Will the media be compressed or transcoded? Is it 4K media? Will there be 8K media in the future. Is the media streaming directly from the shared storage? Is there likely to be significant growth to the creative team in the near future? These and more factors help determine how powerful you need your video editing storage system to be.

The EditStor Velo delivers a true 2500 MB/second of bandwidth from a single 16 bay server and up to 5000 MB/second with a single expansion chassis. These speeds offer real-time collaboration for small to large creative teams, supporting 4K, 8K, and uncompressed media. More importantly, EditStor Velo provides sustained performance across large numbers of editorial systems each with multiple streams. Read Archion testimonials and customer success stories to learn how EditStor customers value the great performance and more.

Shared Storage with the proper mix of functionality, manageability, and simplicity.
As a purpose-built shared storage system for video editing and related workflows, EditStor Velo, like the EditStor Omni, is broadly and regularly tested for current compatibility with the leading applications such as Avid Media Composer and Pro Tools (with the transparent bin locking), Adobe Premiere Pro, After Effects and Creative Cloud for Teams, Apple Final Cut Pro, Blackmagic DaVinci Resolve, and more. In addition, Archion was the first network storage manufacturer to deliver a NewTek NDI certified solution for next-generation IP production workflows.

More than just the content creation applications, it is critical to ensure interoperability and seamless integration with software and hardware that run your comprehensive workflow tools and applications, such media asset managers, transcoders, ingest servers, playout servers, and more. EditStor Omni is a Linux based shared storage platform that supports cross OS networks and industry standard IT file transfer protocols simultaneously. This means maximum connectivity to, and integration of, the servers and workstations that drive your workflow.

Concerned about who has access to what media on your video editing storage? EditStor offers a comprehensive set of user and group management, as well as user system security and administrative access. This includes the support of an internal LDAP as well as the seamless integration for external user authentication tools, such as Active Directory and Open Directory.

Simple media management is another important component unique to leading purpose-built shared storage for video editing? EditStor Velo allows users to create storage pools of any size as well the flexibility of expanding those pools dynamically, without any downtime or performance degradation. Within the pools, media shares are logically presented for quick and easy identification.

As your EditStor Velo storage server fills up, you can either dynamically add an expansion chassis that meets your size requirements without any downtime or you can use the internal backup and replication tools to move the media off to a different tier of storage, including fast tape backup (LTO/LTFS) for long term archive.

A Shared Storage System to Meet your Specific Requirements
Broadcast and video editing demands vary enormously, but EditStor Velo was designed with this in mind. 10GigE Copper or 10GigE Fiber optics are standard and 40 GigE is available for the more bandwidth-intensive applications such as color correction. While EditStor is uniquely engineered for great performance over lower cost and higher density spinning disk (HDD), EditStor Velo is available in a Flash (all SSD) model if your workflows require other performance characteristics like lower latency and greater IOPS.

The EditStor Velo is valued by media executives and professionals because the technology is proven and the support is second to none. Regardless of the type of organization, if you’re creating media for professional use, you can have the confidence that an EditStor Velo will enhance your post-production environment for many years to come.
